School-Age Learn to Swim

The Swimmagic school-age programme has been structured to give swimmers the best possible chance of progression. Achievable goals have been set for each level that will ensure children are working on the correct skills for their personal capabilities. High repetition of these key skills will ensure their movement between levels.

 

Kickers

Duration: 25 Minutes

A class working on introductory floating and kicking excercises. Children will be working towards an independent front and back float, a push and glide, and a streamlined kick to a set distance standard.

GOALS:

  • Floating                                Front and Back - Unassisted
  • 4 x 5m Push and Glide           Correct body position
  • 4 x 5m Kick                           Front Streamlined
  • 2 x 10m Kick                         Back with Board 


    Paddlers

    Duration: 25 Minutes

    Children will be building strength in their freestyle and backstroke kick while working towards completing a set distance of freestyle arm action holding a streamlined body position.

    GOALS:

  • 4 x 7m Swim                             Freestyle arms – Constant Kicking
  • 4 x 10m Kick                              Back Streamlined
  • 4 x 10m Kick                              with Board - Head up
  • 4 x 10m Kick                              on Side w/ Board

 

Breathers

    Duration: 25 Minutes

    Swimmers for the first time will be introduced to freestyle arms with breathing on the kickboard, and rotation excercises will be continued.  Double arm backstroke and Breaststroke kick will also be a focus for the swimmers.

    GOALS:

  • 4 x 12.5m Swim                         Freestyle with Board
  • 2 x 12.5m Swim                         Backstroke - Hands by Sides
  • 4 x 12.5m Kick                           2 Free, 2 Back Streamlined (15sec rest)
  • 12.5m Swim                              Breaststroke - Assisted

     

    Swimmers

    Duration: 25 Minutes

    In this level the swimmers are expected to complete 30m of correct freestyle and backstroke with good technique and have a basic breaststroke kick to progress to the Development level.

    GOALS:

  • 2 x 12.5m Swim                         Freestyle - Hold Technique
  • 2 x 12.5m Swim                         Backstroke - 9 O'clock Change
  • 4 x 7m Kick                                Breaststoke with Streamlined Arms
  • 4 x 12.5m Kick                           2 Free, 2 Back Streamlined

 

     Development

    Duration: 25 Minutes

    This level builds on the swimmers endurance with stroke count being introduced for both freestyle and backstroke.  A strong focus will be put on breaststroke to ensure swimmers have the correct timing.  Butterfly kick in a streamline on backs will be indroduced as well.

    GOALS:

  • 8 x 12.5m Swim Freestyle           B3 <13 Strokes / Backstroke 9 O'clock Change
  • 2 x 12.5m Swim                         Breaststroke - Kick, Glide, Breathe
  • 2 x 12.5m Kick                           Streamlined Spin Kick on Back
  • 12.5m Kick                                Streamline Butterfly Kick on Back

 

When your swimmer has completed all of the School-Age goals he or she will be ready to join our squads!
