What inspired you to take on the challenge?
I was struggeling to get into the exercise/diet 'zone', and when I heard the challenge was about to start, I knew that a bit of competition and commitment was just what I needed to get started. Also the 'Beginners Bootcamp'started at the same time, so the timing was perfect.
What were the biggest challenges you came up against in your
8 weeks?
The biggest challenge I came up against was getting in from work and putting on my gym gears as opposed to sitting down to a glass of wine. But once I started seeing results, I found it alot easier to resist the temptation of a nice cold one.
What changes did you have to make to achieve your goal?
I didn't have to make too many changes to my lifestyle, but I did have to make more time available in my day to spend exercising. Initially I felt like I was just always going (with work, home, exercise), but after a few weeks it just became part of my daily routine, and with all my increased energy levels I actually found I had more spare time in my day any how.
What are the benefits you have noticed both during and after the challenge?
My energy levels have sky rocketed and I do not get half as tired as I use to. I am not as hungry as before and I find I can now confidently focus on other goals as opposed to just weight loss (such as increasing fitness, mobility, strength and health).
How did you find the challenge ‘system/programme’? i.e.
advice/info/classes etc?
I found the challenge system very clear and achievable. The programme Jason gave us was really helpful as it was not a diet as such - more a healthy way of life. The info pack we got also helped educate us on different exercises and benefits which I found priceless. I also believe the combination aquaclasses and Mo's bootcamps are what gave me my weight loss jumpstart!!!!
Thanks heaps guys, you rock!!!!
2011 Term 2 W8 Loss Champion Tisina Pofaiva
How much weight did you lose in the challenge?
I lost 8.9 kgs. I had a goal to lose 10kgs during the challenge. I didn't quite make it there but I am still happy with the outcome.
What were the major changes you made to achieve your result?
Definitely exercising on a regular basis, limiting the amount of food intake and drinking lots of water. Having junk food around at work and home was a challenge. On other occasions when I have tried to lose weight, I just couldn't resist and had to have a little pick of this and that and then it ended up that I ate the whole donut and not the quarter that I said I was going to eat. This challenge helped me mentally about being disciplined in the decisions that I make.
What was the hardest part of the challenge?
Eating a lot of vegetables, fruit and drinking water everyday. I had to consume 3.2 ltrs of water a day which felt like I was drowning myself. After about week 2, my body got used to it and it wasn't a problem. I found that drinking water didn't make me want to eat as much and I felt that I had a lot more energy. I tried to stick to the nutritional eating plan as much as possible. I pretty much only ate fruit, vegetables and white meat. I ate nothing with sugar (other than fruit), nothing with starch and no red meat. I have honestly never eaten so many vegetables in my life. I must say that the feeling after stuffing myself with so many good foods was very refreshing. There were the odd days where I did nibble on foods that weren't on my eating plan but I made sure that I put in an extra hour of exercise everytime that happened. I was very fortunate to have only put on 100gms during one of the weekly weigh-ins but I lost weight every other week.
How has this result affected your outlook on life in general?
It has changed me dramatically. I joined the challenge for a purpose and that was to better my health and living. I feel a lot more confidence in myself and I feel that I have a happier approach to life. I enjoy exercising on a regular basis, I sleep a lot better and feel a lot stronger. I do a lot more around the house and don't feel like I need to have a midday nap with my little ones.
Would you recommend this challenge to others?
I would reccomend this challenge to anyone who is serious about committing themselves to lose weight. From the beginning, I made a mental note to myself that I was in it to win it. I took photos of myself at the beginning of every week. I monitored my progress by recording my weekly weigh-ins, measuring my waist, bust and hips, recording my food intake and recording the amount of exercise that I did throughout the week. As the weight lowered, the benefits grew. Clothes started to fit more comfortably and lots of compliments were given by work colleagues and family of how good I looked. If you enter the challenge desperate to win like I did, I'm sure that anyone has the capability of winning too.
2010 Term 4 Challenge
In October we kicked off our term 4 W8 loss challenge. Betty McCreedy came out on top of the challenge group by dropping a massive 9.6 kgs over the 8 weeks. Here’s what she has to say about her experience.

Here's what Betty had to say about her win...
How has the challenge affected your life?
It has changed my life completely. I feel more confident in myself mentally and physically. I haven’t been able to do anything in my garden for the last 7 years and now I’m out there all the time, I’m wearing new clothes and walking the dog every day. I absolutely love life now!
What did you have to change to achieve your results?
Exercise and food were the main factors. I started working out regularly at the aquatic centre using the hydrotherapy classes and walking most days. The gym was a little bit too much for me as I have bad varicose veins. Between using the W8 loss system in the challenge and adapting it to suit my needs under the guidance of the gym instructors we came up with a routine that worked for me. I also have to acknowledge the support from my family, friends, fellow challengers and gym staff; without your continued support and encouragement I don’t think I could have won the competition.
How has your outlook on life changed in general?
Life is so much more enjoyable now. I wake up every morning looking forward to the day ahead. It’s a blast to be able to enjoy everything life has to offer. I have a much better understanding of the importance of exercise and nutrition now and find myself passing on that knowledge to people around me.
What’s next for you Betty?
My friend and I, who were both on the challenge, are going to have a crack at the City to Sea fun run/walk coming up soon and I’ve still got about 10 kgs I want to drop. I’m also going to enter the next W8 loss challenge as I’ve enjoyed this last one so much and I know their system will work for me again!
Term 3 W8 Loss Champion Dave Mandeno.
Dave won our Term 3 W8 Loss Challenge with a drop of 10.8 kgs over 8 weeks. At the tender age of 66 he showed up a lot of contestants, decades younger than him, with great perseverance and attitude to achieve his W8 loss. He utilized the Hydrotherapy Classes, 4 – 5 x per week, and made significant changes to his diet by following our W8 Loss Challenge Nutrition plan.
Dave you are a legend and an inspiration to us all!!
