Jason operates PTS: Personalised Training Systems and The SurfLab. He is is a Chek Holistic lifestyle Coach level 1 and has a Diploma in Sport & Leisure.
In my time as a personal trainer I have worked with people from all walks of life; from elite level athletes, the chronically ill, to the average joe/jane who just want to look and feel better. I had suffered from lower back pain and sciatica for the last ten years or so, mainly due to an injury, incorrect technique and bad habits I learned weight training.
My ego had such a hold on me that I hammered myself to the point where the big compound exercises I loved, like dead-lifts and squats, got so hard and painful that I had to stop doing them altogether! The conventional treatment given to me was drugs (Diclofenac or Voltaren), weekly sessions of physio & massage. All this did was take the edge off the pain... sometimes! Some days were better than others but pain was a constant companion. I continued to see my doctor as it wasn't getting better, and he would just give me stronger Voltaren! Eventually it came to the stage where this medication had ulcerated my stomach and I could no longer take them! My next option was to have surgery and have my spine fused! I thought this was extreme, and subsequently I decided against it and continued swimming to just relieve some of the pain. It worked for a while but I was still only at 60% and if I couldn't get to the pool regularly, the pain would be back.
THEN about a year ago I approached Jason about my back issue, and he told me he couldn't see any reason why I couldn't get it back to 100% and squat my own body weight comfortably again. This blew me away! He prescribed just 3 easy exercises and educated me in the value of specifically engaging my core in a correct manner in less than 10 minutes! Armed with this simple yet powerful information, I went away and religiously did my exercises, and now I'm back to 100%.
I have continued to research other ways to keep strengthening my core by myself, but I always refer to Jason for guidance. I am grateful for Jason's advice; he is educated in many forms of fitness & rehabilitation and has a quiet unassuming manner and delivery. I would highly recomend Jason as a Physical Trainer and am thankful that I was able to work with such an approachable and knowledgeable trainer.
