How much weight did you lose in the challenge?
I lost 8.9 kgs. I had a goal to lose 10kg's during the challenge. I didn't quite make it there but I am still happy with the outcome.
What were the major changes you made to achieve your result?
Definitely exercising on a regular basis, limiting the amount of food intake and drinking lots of water. Having junk food around at work and home was a challenge. On other occasions when I have tried to lose weight, I just couldn't resist and had to have a little pick of this and that and then it ended up that I ate the whole donut and not the quater that I said I was going to eat. This challenge helped me mentally about being disciplined in the decisions that I make.
What was the hardest part of the challenge?
Eating a lot of vegetables, fruit and drinking water everyday. I had to consume 3.2 ltrs of water a day which felt like I was drowning myself. After about week 2 my body got used to it and it wasn't a problem. I found that drinking water didn't make me want to eat as much and I felt that I had a lot more energy. I tried to stick to the nutritional eating plan as much as possible. I pretty much only ate fruit, vegetables and white meat. I ate nothing with sugar (other than fruit), nothing with starch and no red meat. I have honestly never eaten so many vegetables in my life. I must say that the feeling after stuffing myself with so many good foods was very refreshing. There were the odd days where I did nibble on foods that weren't on my eating plan but I made sure that I put in an extra hour of exercise everytime that happened. I was very fortunate to have only put on 100gms during one of the weekly weigh-ins but I lost weight every other week.
How has this result affected your outlook on life in general?
It has changed me dramatically. I joined the challenge for a purpose and that was to better my health and living. I feel a lot more confident in myself and I feel that I have a happier approach to life. I enjoy exercising on a regular basis, I sleep a lot better and feel a lot stronger. I do a lot more around the house and don't feel like I need to have a mid day nap with my little ones.
Would you recommend this challenge to others?
I would recommend this challenge to anyone who is serious about committing themselves to lose weight. From the beginning, I made a mental note to myself that I was in it to win it. I took photos of myself at the beginning of every week. I monitored my progress by recording my weekly weigh-ins, measuring my waist, bust and hips, recording my food intake and recording the amount of exercise that I did throughout the week. As the weight lowered, the benefits grew. Clothes started to fit more comfortablty and lots of compliments were given by work colleagues and family of how good I looked. If you enter the challenge desperate to win like I did, I'm sure that anyone has the capability of winning too.
