Green Prescription

What is Green Prescription?

A Health Professional, like your doctor or a Practice Nurse, can write you a Green Prescription if you are 18 years or older and could benefit from becoming more physically active. Talk to your GP to see if it is an option for you.

The programme is delivered across Northland Region by Sport Northland with support from a number of PHOs (Public Health Organisations) and other health providers.

How Does it Work?

Once you have a green prescription, you will be contacted by a member of the Sport Northland Green Prescription team for an appointment. They will discuss your best exercise options - if they think that including pool exercise is your best option, they may refer you to us (Whangarei Aquatic Centre). For more information on Sport Northland Green Prescription click here.

Discovery pass

If you are referred to us you will be given a green 'discovery pass' so you can come and check out what we have to offer. You get:

  • an appointment with one of our qualified trainers (you have to call and book a time),
  • a free trial of one of our group fitness classes (no booking required)
  • a free day to try out our pools.

Then What?

If you enjoy what we have to offer and would like to become a member, you will be eligible for our concession rates.

If you would like to try out a short term membership to see if it is for you, you can take out a 1 month cash membership for only $39 (normally $132) that will give you full access to our gym, aqua classes and pools. Please note that you will only be able to get this membership once.

If you just want to be able to use the pools on a casual basis, ask the Sport Northland Green Prescription team for one of their blue pool passes that gives you casual entry for only $4.00 (usually $6.50) for a month.

If you are inactive, over the age of 18 years and your medical conditions (if any) are stable, Green Prescription may be the answer. Have a look at how Green Prescription has benefited others (see our Good News stories on the side menu) then talk to your Doctor (GP), Nurse or physiotherapist today.
