You may have seen our Life Guards in awesome stylish new shirts. For those that have asked or interested in the meaning of the design, please read below -
The design work on the new Lifeguard shirt draws strongly from symbols that are connected with water and nurturing the mana of people.
Some of the prominent features in the design include; the mangōpare /hammer head shark (symbolic of strength, knowledge, and self determination), the puhoro (often carved on the prow of a canoe and symbolic of mana, speed and agility) unaunahi/fish scales (symbolic of our connection to water and the environment), ngutukākā / kākā beak (symbolic of nurturing and protecting).
The intent behind the design was to recognise the unique skills of the wearer and their important role in safeguarding people in and around the water, uplifting the mana of those in their care and in like uplifting their own.
