Poolside Cafe first to launch CupCycling in Richmond
11 July 2018
Richmond Aquatic Centre's Poolside Cafe is proud to be the first Cafe in Richmond to launch the CupCycling programme.
The innovative programme aims to cut the number of disposable coffee cups people throw away and reduce the waste that ends up in our landfill.
Tasman District Council is supporting the initiative to Make New Zealand Disposable Cup Free and CupCyclingTM, led by local business IdealCup, because it ties in perfectly with our focus on waste minimisation.
Even compostable cups often end up in landfill – they need to be processed in commercial composting facilities, which adds cost and complexity.
We’re pleased to support IdealCup’s vision to Make New Zealand Disposable Cup Free and the CupCyclingTM programme that IdealCup has initiated.
How it works:
- Pay a $10 bond at the Pooslide Cafe and receive your first hot drink FREE in a reusable CupCyclingTM cup.
- Return the used cup at any participating CupCyclingTM café, for a fresh cup when you need your next caffeine fix.
- Every hot drink refill purchased with and Ideal Cup will receive a discount at the Poolside Cafe of .20c per refill.
To date the Motueka campaign has diverted over 10,000 disposable cups going to landfill in less than 12 months. With 3 new cafes coming on board soon, that number is likely to grow to an estimated 30,000 fewer cups making their way to landfill every year. We hope you will join us in the push to Make New Zealand Disposable Cup Free!
