Tuia ki runga
Tuia ki raro
Tuia ki waho
Tuia ki roto
Tuia i te here tangata.
Ka rongo te ao
Ka rongo te po
Ka tihei wā mauri ora
Drawing from mātauranga Māori practise and principles, Aroora is a bicultural well-being philosophy that is applicable to people of all backgrounds.
Aroora is the framework which we use to inform our management practise and the model we use in the kaupapa Māori programmes we deliver.
The word Aroora can be broken into two kupu (words) Aro, meaning to turn towards, focus on, or concentrate on, and Ora, meaning health, life, well being.

Aroora and tikanga
Tikanga are guiding principles. Aroora has seven tikanga which allow us to express rangatiratanga and manaakitanga, key elements of the Aroora philosophy.
- Whakapapa/connection
- Pono/perception
- Aroha/love
- Mana/energy
- Tika/rightness or correctness
- Āio/harmony
- Ānāianei te wā/presence
Aroora and ira tangata
Aroora encourages people to be conscious of 5 elements of the ira tangata (human element) which affect a persons ora.
- Hinengaro/mind
- Tinana/body
- Wairua/spirit
- Whānau/heart
- Mauri ora/life principle

Aroora and direction
Aroora reminds us to have focus, which we use to inform our management practice: it is also the model we use in the programmes we run and keeps us connected to what’s important in life. There are 3 Aros in Aroora.
- Arotahi/focus
- Aronga/purpose
- Arorangi/relationship
Aroora programmes
We are currently delivering a programme supported by Te Puni Kōkiri called ‘Kāhu kōrako’ to support Māori leadership across the organisation. Check out this mahi here:
We are also working hard to improve the cultural competency of the organisation.

In 2021 we are delivering two programmes to rangatahi in Whangārei, Tenei toku whare supported by Te Puni Kōkiri, and Tāhuna tau atu supported by Foundation North.
