 David Mullan

David Mullan
Health & Fitness Team Leader

Qualifications: Bachelor in Sport and Recreation

Sport and recreation have always been my #1 passion and it is awesome to have a role where I get to lead people with similar interests. I have played almost every sport under the sun and have a very competitive nature.

Originally from the Waikato region I can safely say that Northland has grown to become home even after spending a couple of years travelling Australia and dabbling in a bit of travel to Europe. If I’m not in my office you will most likely find me in the gym or having a coffee in the café. Feel free to approach me and have a chat, something else I have been found to enjoy partaking in

 Samantha Babe

Sam Babe - SwimMagic Team leader

Qualifications: Bachelor of Physical Education – double major Exercise Prescription/Management and Exercise Sport and Science.

Born in Whangarei, I’m a country girl at heart who has a passion for the outdoors and sports. When completing my Physical Education degree I found my love for teaching and coaching swimming and from there volunteered my time to teach children to swim.

Interests outside of work include fishing, spending time with friends and family and tramping, with my Bucket List goal to complete all the Great Walks. I’m a very approachable person so feel free to come into my office for a chat.

Hazel Buchanan - Aquatics Team Leader

I was lucky enough to grow up here in Whangarei. I worked at the pools as a lifeguard while I was in high school and after that I travelled and worked overseas for 6 years before coming home last year. I worked a little in Swim School and Reception before moving back to Aquatics.

I’ve been a member of the Whangarei Heads Surf Lifesaving club for over 10 years, I love hiking and swimming and when I’m not at work you’ll usually find me in the sea or up a mountain.

Chanel Ruri - Chillout Team Leader

Chanel Ruri - Chillout Team Leader

Hello, My name is Chanel. I have been working at the Whangarei Aquatic centre since 2014.

I originally started my role as a Fitness instructor. From there I decided to expand my knowledge and join the Swim school and Aquatics team. I enjoyed all 3 roles but my true passion was creativity and working under pressure. When the role as ‘Chillout Co-ordinator’ became available, I knew I had to apply.

Here we are, 2 years later and I still enjoy the programmes I run. If I’m not at work you will find me spending time with my family and my 2 handsome dogs
