CLM Leadership Programme

CLM has a proud history of leadership programmes, firstly with a programme championed by John Latimer called Super 8 and then more recently the Aroora Māori leadership programme Kāhu Kōrako. These two programmes have supported the leadership development of approximately 150 CLM employees.

Off the back of these two programmes CLM’s latest iteration of Leadership Development programming, LEAD by CLM, recently kicked off in Whangārei hosted by the Aroora team.

The programme is delivered over 3 sessions, with recently completed session 1 focussing on the CLM’s whakatauaki ‘Ka āwhina mai, ka āwhina atu ngā mahi a te rēhia’. Ten participants from across the CLM’s network got to experience a hikoi up Parihaka maunga, waka ama in Tūtūkākā Harbour, and a series on traditional Māori games, amongst the backdrop of traditional pūrākau and mātauranga associated with the area and activities. Additionally, presentations were delivered on, CLM’s leadership programming and whakapapa, Aroora’s personality and hauora model, as well as general wellbeing/hauora. The second session is scheduled for early 2026, and the following is a small snapshot of feedback gathered by participants.

 participant Testimonial

“This session definitely contributed to my leadership journey. Helped me network, meet others and make that relationship with other staff who are like minded. Also helped me realise a few things about myself not just as a leader but as a person. Definitely feel like now as well, even if it’s for a little bit, I’ve found my purpose in this aquatic industry while also keeping in touch with Te Ao Māori.”

“The hikoi up the Maunga was a form of recreation I hadn't been involved in for years, the team games on the courts gave me the same thrills of high school and university PE, and the experience I had on the waka was spectacular. Jamille's games and Scott's stories were engaging and thought provoking. The opportunity for a group of likeminded leaders to invest time into our Hauora was invaluable and it has fostered a new network of leaders within CLM. I can't believe we have the privilege of attending another two of these sessions next year!”

The first LEAD session was a valuable opportunity to connect with other team members and gain insights from different perspectives across the organisation, exploring leadership styles and their impact on team dynamics, reflecting on my own strengths and growth areas, engaging in practical and interactive activities, and learning tools and frameworks that I can apply in my day-to-day role all of which contributed to meaningful personal and professional development
