At Whangarei Aquatic Centre we offer a complete range of classes in both our competition pool and our hydrotherapy pool 

Competition Pool Classes

Held in our competition pool, our aqua fitness classes will get you moving in a fun and motivating environment! 

Aqua Deep

A high cardio deep water workout. Aqua deep is a non-weight bearing form of exercise performed in the deep end of the pool with the participant wearing a buoyancy belt, so the range of movement and intensity is far greater than you can achieve on dry land and most importantly without the impact.

Aqua Fit

A full body workout using the resistance of the water as well as noodles; dumb bells and other materials to improve fitness levels, muscle tone and fat burn. Caters to all levels.

Aqua Power

A High-Intensity aqua boot camp that will give you a Power surge to start your day.

Legends 50s forward

A 45-minute low intensity ‘sit fit’ class that utilises functional bodyweight and low resistance exercises to achieve joint strength and stability as well as progressive mobility.

Hydrotherapy Pool Classes 

Our hydrotherapy pool is perfect for aqua fitness classes! heated to a comfortable 33-34 degrees its the perfect place to improve your blood circulation and strengthen your muscles. 

Hydro Intro

Imperative for all newcomers to attend; low intensity movements designed to introduce newcomers to the hydrotherapy pool, to evaluate readiness before participating in group classes, and to provide skills for use during public sessions.

Hydro Tonic

Our most gentle group fitness class - focuses on total wellbeing and will contribute to enhanced quality of life. Introduces tai chi and yoga principles and functional movements to improve mobility, strength, flexibility, coordination, and fitness.

Hydro Motion

An intense full-body workout using the resistance of the water as well as noodles; dumbbells and other materials to improve fitness levels, muscle tone and fat burn.

Hydro Combo

A class that uses tai chi and yoga principles with functional movements to improve mobility, strength, flexibility, coordination, and fitness. A bit more intense then our original tonic class

Ai Chi

A simple water exercise and relaxation program performed using a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad movements of arms, legs, and torso in flowing continual patterns.

Why exercise in water?

Exercise in water can improve physical fitness and promote a healthier lifestyle for a variety of different populations. The buoyancy of the water supports your body weight and decreases stress on your weight-bearing joints. This makes water-based activities a potentially safer and more comfortable form of training for specialist groups, such as the overweight, pregnant, senior, physically less able and people rehabilitating after an injury.
