Ngā mauri o Kāhu Kōrako

The Kāhu Kōrako kaupapa came to life in late 2019, and in its very first year two mauri stones were gifted to the kaupapa by renowned carver Timoti Moran of Te Tau Ihu.

These two kōhatu (stones), one pounamu, and one pakohe, have come on every Kāhu Kōrako wānanga since they were received.

Sourced from Rakautara (Aniseed Valley), not far from Whakatū (Nelson), they have been carried across mountains, paddled across moana, heard many a jovial tale, and even captured the odd fallen tear.

Not only do these kōhatu hold the essence of the taniwha Poutini, but they connect us to each other, carrying the essence of the wider Kāhu Kōrako whānau.

Long may they be carried into the future!
