CLM supporting Byond Disaster Relief New Zealand

After finding out about Byond Disaster Relief NZ through Jen last year, Bridget realised they may be the right match for a bunch of items that have been stored at Leisure Wholsalers that were surplus to requirements.

CLM donated:

  • 350 old uniform tops in good condition
  • 4400 masks
  • 600 empty goggle cases

These items have been distributed across the globe from Ukraine, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Globally, the fashion industry is responsible for an estimated 180,000 tonnes of clothing and textile waste ending up in landfills in New Zealand each year. In terms of recycling synthetic fibres from clothing, it’s really complex and hard to turn back into another piece of clothing therefore, the majority is going to landfill.
