KĀHU KŌRAKO WĀNANGA

CLM's internal Māori leadership programme Kāhu Kōrako, run under the kaupapa Aroora and supported by Te Puni Kōkiri, kicked off again in early February after a lengthy break as a result of disruptions to regional travel caused by Covid 19.

The group met in Whangārei for their second wānanga to engage in a series of experiences and discussions geared towards supporting haoura (well being) and rangatiratanga (Māori leadership).

Whakaheke ngaru (surfing) on traditional Papa Pae (bodyboards) at Matapōuri on the Tutukākā coast was a real highlight. As was harvesting and then making the Rongoa Māori Tupākihi Panipani (Muscle rub) together.

The ancestral maunga Manaia, which stands as a guardian at the entrance of the Whangārei Harbour, was also successfully scaled.

The Kāhui (group) are scheduled to meet again in March in Whakatū/Nelson on the trail of Pounamu (with Taonga by Timoti)   and paddling across Te Tai o Aorere (with Waka Able Tasman).
