NBS and SwimMagic Partnership Helps Local Children Access Life-Saving Swim Lessons

A renewed partnership between NBS and SwimMagic is helping more local children access vital learn-to-swim and water safety lessons.

The initiative supports families who may otherwise miss out, ensuring more children can develop the skills they need to stay safe and confident in and around water.

With the support of NBS and its clients, and in partnership with the Fifeshire Foundation, SwimMagic is able to identify and support children who would benefit most from structured swimming and water safety education. By helping remove financial barriers, the programme is opening access to an essential life skill for more families in the community.

Water safety remains a critical life skill in New Zealand, particularly in regions where time is often spent around rivers, beaches, and pools. SwimMagic believes every child should have the opportunity to learn to swim, regardless of their circumstances.

“We are incredibly grateful to NBS for partnering with us on this meaningful initiative,” said Vaughan Hope, Facility Manager at Richmond Aquatic Centre.

“Swimming lessons are about more than learning strokes, they build confidence, resilience, and essential water safety skills that can save lives. Through this partnership, we’re able to reach children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part, giving them skills that will benefit them for years to come.”

Hope also acknowledged the important role of the Fifeshire Foundation in helping identify families who would benefit most from the programme.

NBS Chief Executive Gina Dellabarca said the partnership reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting practical, community-focused initiatives.

“Thanks to the support of our clients, we’re able to invest in programmes that make a real difference locally. Partnering with SwimMagic means more children can access swimming and water safety lessons, building confidence, resilience, and skills that extend well beyond the pool.”

SwimMagic hopes the initiative will continue to grow, supporting even more children each year to build lifelong water confidence and safety skills.
